Very quick read although I'm still not clear as to what the title is supposed to mean. This book was banned from Boston when it was first released because it was too erotic. By today's standards, it's pretty tame. I know this has been made into a movie (two versions, I think) and can see why. The story is intense while basically straight forward (not a lot of subplots).

3.5 ... there is a reason it is a classic. It is a little dated, for sure, but still a delightful hardboiled crime novel.
