http://iyamvixenbooks.blogspot.com/2010/11/one-bad-apple-orchard-mystery-1-sheila.html is my review of the first book in Sheila's Orchard Mystery series. I really liked ONE BAD APPLE, one bean more than FUNDRAISING THE DEAD. Not sure what magic was missing for me, but I do believe I will try the next one, LET'S PLAY DEAD, just to make sure.

I hope to connect better with Nell and her friends and coworkers. I do like the premise. I love learning new things and I know I learn something new no matter what I read. Getting to know some background on fundraising and artifacts from back in the day made the pages turn even if the mystery was sort of solved (for me) halfway or so through.

Four second time will be the charm beans......

Really enjoyed this one--for a first book, it moved quickly, the characters are really engaging, and it leaves just enough open for a long line of good plots.

This was such a formula story, I knew in the first few chapters who the thief was. As soon as the FBI agent appeared I knew there would be some sexual tension, if not an affair; and about half way through the book I knew who the new president would be. I've never worked in a place that called so many meetings--how did they get their work done? I found the book slow and boring, but I kept reading hoping that I would be fooled in the end, but I wasn't.

Who is stealing very valuable old documents and items from a museum dedicated to the history of Philadelphia? Was one of the staff members murdered or did he just fall, striking his head on the floor.

I am curious about what happens next, but I did see the bad guys in this book from many pages away.

How the mystery was solved felt a bit anti-climatic and kinda came out of nowhere.

That being said, as a History major I really enjoyed reading about how all this museum stuff goes on

As far as cozy mysteries go...

Sheila Connolly is my favorite. This was a fun glimpse into history and philly society. The mystery was fun and the characters delightful. There were some misses with edits etc but altogether a fun escape

I would rate this at 3.5 if I could. I just can't give a four and I feel bad giving it a 3.

The book was a very slow read for me. I enjoy reading museum mysteries but it seemed like some parts of the story just dragged on. I was able to figure out one of two suspects near oh, the first 1/4 of the book?

I don't know if the "budding romance" thing is common in cozy mysteries, but if I were to read the next book in this series, I already know how it would start.

I liked the story enough, but, it just wasn't excellent and it was way too slow a book for me.

Actually 3.5 stars

Eleanor "Nell" Pratt is in charge of fundraising for the Society for the Preservation of Pennsylvania Antiques, a small museum in Philadelphia. However, when she finds the body of one of her co-workers, she gets swept up into a mystery involving missing artifacts and documents from the museum's collection.

I like museums. I even took a class on museums while getting my art history degree. And I've volunteered in development, so I have a bit more relatable background to this mystery than a lot of people. I think it was interesting.
SpoilerMost established museums have way more things than they're capable of displaying, so stealing seemingly unimportant stuff to sell to collectors on the black market could be easy to get away with (and lucrative) for museum employees who lack integrity, like Charles.
The book did drag in places, but overall was a good start to a new series. I'm not sure where the author will go from here, because the opportunities for new mysteries in a museum seems limited, but I'd read them.
