I received a review copy of this book through my Hachette Rep.

An ode to Nancy Drew, this new book by the author of the Book Scavenger series explores power of the female sleuth in a modern setting. Maizy is a budding movie director who is given a set of vintage Nancy Drew novels by an unknown sender, complete with an undeniable photo of Maizy’s grandmother inside. But when her grandmother not only denies sending the books but also refuses to acknowledge she is the young woman in the photo, a mystery is afoot. Full of surprises and twists, friends found and lost, this standalone novel in honor of the ground-breaking Nancy Drew will not disappoint a young modern detective.

Sisterhood of Sleuths by Jennifer Chambliss Bertman.

This middle grade read was delightful!
If you were ever a Nancy Drew fan, pick up this book!

I read it in one sitting. Well developed characters, a sweet storyline and the history of the power of Nancy Drew (good and bad).

So glad I heard about this book on Currently Reading.

Sisterhood of Sleuths is a fantastic middle grade mystery about friendship, history, intellectual property, and film-making. It pays homage well to "Carolyn Keene" and the Nancy Drew series. The book offers well-meaning criticism for the racism and perfectly coincidental plots of the Nancy Drew books, while appreciating the power of the series to draw many readers together. If you like books with plenty of sleuthing, bike riding, and adventures, this is the one for you.

This was such a fun middle grade read! Kids will love it, especially ones that love Nancy Drew or just mysteries in general.

3.5 - While I enjoyed this book, it feels more like a middle grade book written for adults. I’m trying to picture one of my students reading this and I’m struggling to think of any who would appreciate it as much as an adult who loved Nancy Drew as a child would.

Set in Larksville, and narrated by Maizy Turner, Bergman’s plot incorporates the history of Nancy Drew in a funny story about friendship.
