If you liked the first book, then you will like this book too.

I enjoyed digging more into Auris's past as she recovers the gap in her memories and learns more about her unique fae heritage/ changeling powers.

In this second book of lost memories, adventure, and heartbreak, Auris must once again rescue Harrow. Auris navigates a world full of those who wish to experiment on her, and those who wish to use her unique gifts, but this is nothing new for her. Our old friends are back, along with a few new ones including dragons. Her quest leads her through treacherous landscapes, encounters with lost friends and new enemies, all while struggling to be the person everyone thinks her to be. Auris must confront her fears and keep her wits about her if she wishes to save Harrow and herself.
Beautiful story telling and a great follow up to the first book.

Dreena: “You need to banish your impulsive behaviors and embrace whatever common sense you can muster!”

This quote describes everything I think of Auris. She is such a frustrating main character.

I love Terry Brooks writing and will read all of his books I can even if this is my least favorite main character I’ve read so far.

Daughter of Darkness is the second book in the Viridian Deep series by Terry Brooks. The story takes place a few years after the first book, Child of Light. Auris is still trying to piece together her past and her place in the world, while fighting off Trolls and humans who hope to recapture her. Auris finds herself in conflict and danger once again as she tries to save herself and those she loves.
Terry Brooks is an excellent storyteller and world creator. He writes with a flair that pulls you deep into the story as though you are a member of the party. However, this is not without flaws as Daughter of Darkness is designed as a YA book so it seems childish at times and Auris is still extremely naive. The character of Auris at times seems too contrived, with all of her unknown but conveniently found powers.
Altogether the story is a good one. It is interesting and well described. I would read another book in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and Del Ray Publishing for the advanced copy of the book. The opinions are my own.
