I read this book in high school, nearly 10 years ago and am so glad I reread it all these years later. I absolutely love the writing style - Daphne du Maurier could be a nature writer with some of her wonderful descriptions of nature. I think her use of first person POV is perfect, and I’d recommend anyone who’s read Colleen Hoover to read this book, because Daphne is the og.

I fully realize I'm biased because I saw the Netflix adaptation, and it was almost entirely faithful.

But the book was amazing! I'm so glad I read it! Definitely Gothic Noir.
Definitely one of my fav classics.

Although the predicament of the unnamed heroine is emotionally and psychologically engrossing as she navigates her relationships with Mr de Winter and the frightening Mrs Danvers, it is in the final third that this book really pulls you in and ties you to a chair.
