After spending days stranded on a deserted island, step-siblings Vanessa, Carter, Buzz, and Jane are again lost at sea when the currents drag their rescue boat away from the rescue helicopter. They wash up on another island, but this one is home to a small tribe of Pacific Islanders who don't want contact with the outside world, and the only way they can get to the boats that can get them off the island is to run the Raka Nau, a coming of age ceremony/race across the island/obstacle course to choose the most worthy from the teenagers of the tribe.
The relative realism of the first Stranded books have been abandoned for something that's more like a post-apocalyptic Hunger Games/Maze Runner adventure. The characters are still interesting, and you can't help but be pulled into the plot, but it's a definite departure from the first three books in the series.

It's very amusing that another series with these same kids has started, with them being stranded again. But, this book is a little more intense with other characters and a whole finishline and pressure and what not, so its a little different from the first series:)
