Really good. Of course S.E. Smith has turned into one of my favorite authors so it is really hard not to like something of hers:)

Usually, I don't mind kidnap romances because it seems like the woman volunteers for it or the man at least acknowledges the woman's POV and tries but fails to accommodate it. Here it was just the man overcoming the woman with her protesting all the way. Then instead of continuing the protest, Stockholm Syndrome kicks in. And after all that, to distract from the unlikely romance, there's a conspiracy to overthrow the throne or take over the universe or something like that.

Alot of nonsensical mushy gushy shit with no proper character development and world building even though the story line had alot of potential.

I didn't like it, plain and simple. I sound stupid saying it wasn't realistic as its a paranormal/scifi, but in terms of a humans interactions, it wasn't.

Lots and lots and lots happened, to the point it was too much, and then it ended with a sex scene with no conclusion to their troubles. I was interested in both Cara and Carmen's personalities, but this took me a long time to read and I struggled greatly so I'm unsure if I'll continue at all.

This book sounded soo good. I was extremely disappointed with it. Like I hated the book. I listened to the audio book so I can't judge the editing. Which most every review I have read as complained about. But the story... I mean this chick randomly finds a space ship and she's not even a tiny bit scared? Come on. She just wants to pet it because it seemed upset. And then the same thing when Zoran wakes up and man handles her. She's not scared, no. She's just concerned for his well being... But then later on when they are on the way to his home land she gives up and stops eating and sleeping? I don't understand at all. She was just dumb.

I feel like it could have been a really fantastic book because the story line itself, I liked. It just wasn't written well. The human bad guy was kinda lame and cliche but other than that I liked it. Which the only reason Im giving it 2 stars. Cara seems pretty cool.. I might try the next book but I defiantly won't waste my time and finish it, if it is anything like this book.

Well this was a bit confusing....

I see that there are a lot of high ratings for this book. Unfortunately this was not a book that appealed to me. There were some very intriguing elements in the story and had a potentially good storyline that made me curious enough to give it a go. Here is my take on the story:

Abby lives like a hermit alone on a mountain. Without close contact to any other people and I wonder if she ever even went to school.... During a thunderstorm an alien crashes in the woods above her cabin. The next morning Abby heads out to investigate the strange light she thought she saw during the storm.
Yeah, and here's when things got weird. And confusing.

SpoilerShe approaches the strange metal object she immediately thinks of as a space craft without fear or self preservation. And instinctively feels a connection with the ships as she pets it and talks to it. Even when she stumbles over the actual alien she just goes a head and pet him and takes him into her home without any reflection about consequences. (Btw, why had he crawled out of the symbiotic space craft? Never got an explanation to that. It must have been safer to remain inside on an unknown planet, right?)
The silliness and absurdity escalates after that. Like the stalker/sheriff. How could she just be so mellow about him watching her for yearsand not have her friends and family help her against that? And why was she not creeped out? Why does it not concern her that he knows everything about her? She spends a couple of hours on a plane with a few other women and suddenly they're BFF? What? And they seemed to be as ditzy as Abby, because when they see Abby being abducted they give chase. Without calling it in. It's briefly mentioned, but just as soon discarded. Hey we can take back our friend from the psychopath ourself... Smart thinking.

A few things irritated me like how Abby lacked any kind of communication skills when she was dealing with men. I was also put off with how the author portrayed one of these friends. “I’m a little ADHD. I couldn’t sit still if my life depended on it, and I only sleep about four hours a night if I’m lucky. Drives everyone nuts, but I get a lot done. I have an IQ out the kazoo. Needless to say, most people and all men can’t stand being around me for more than five minutes. Oh, but I do love to drive them crazy first.” You either is diagnosed with it or not. There is no "a little ADHD". It'd not a friggin' cold! Then she continues to portray this 20-25-something woman like a hyperactive three-year-old climbing the walls and annoying people throughout the story. Appalling! The one redeeming thing about this part was that apparently this woman had an extremely high IQ. Not that the author lets her show that with more than she knows how to hotwire a car and to think up ways to drive men crazy, because all men are evil and stupid and how fun is it not to drive everyone away. I think the author might have wanted to read up a bit about ADHD, especially with adult women. Ugh, I'm rambling...

The worst thing about this was that the POV's changed frequently. Often from one sentence to another which made the story hard to follow at times. I think that can be part of the reason why I at several occasions had to go back and reread previous paragraphs to really understand what happened, who did what and to whom. Major confusion. It made my head spinn, and not in a good way.
On top of that I didn't feel like some issues were solved. Like Abby's fear of public intimacy vs. the people of Valdier's perchant to nudity, public sex, voyeurism and sharing females. (Sex clubs and swinger parties, anyone?) When did that conversation between Abby and Zoran take place? Or was it lost in my confusion? I don't know. I think I might be getting a headache with all this spinning...

So if you enjoy confusing smut -CONGRATULATIONS! This is the perfect book for you.
If you already read it and liked it? Good for you!
Anyone else? Don't waste your time or money. If you already have it, I hope you, like me, got it free from Amazon, because it wouldn't have been worth my dime.
