The prequel to wonderfully claustrophobic Wool. Explains without revealing all the nature behind the silos in the first five books. Howey explores his ideas from two different angles. The reuse of metaphors across the plot lines makes for powerful imagery, and helps elevate the core theme of deceit into something that sticks around. And still does good exposition of the -what- thats left over from the first books.
Its not a deep, deep book, but it is just clever enough for its own good. Near future science fiction, my only complaint was the world of 2040 doesnt seem to have shifted much from the world of 2010.

I have to be honest and say I really just skimmed this installment in the series. I didn't love it but I know that I have to read these middle parts to get to the big finale in Dust. I'm not sure why I can't put this series down but the fact is that I can't and I'm just accepting it!

This was too short! I really didn't want it to end, it had me hooked. An amazing prequel to Wool. More please Mr. Howey!

Howey's writing is top-notch, as usual. I found the over-reaching conspiracy to "ensure freedom" a bit difficult to accept, that something so horrendous could have fingers in so many places without someone knowing and trying to stop it. Can't blame it all on meds! That's my one complaint. Otherwise, well done. Looking forward to the next installment!

A nice book, and it felt like a good close to the series.
Still, it lacked the atmosphere that made the previous Wool books so good.

Amazing! I have loved every Wool book and this one was awesome! I enjoyed learning the back story...hoping that there is at least one more to come. Definitely one of my favorite series.

So hungry for more I dove straight into book 6 of the series and it did not disappoint. This one is a prequel to the Wool series and tell the story of the creation of the silos juxtaposed with the very early years inside them. Once again well written characters and a page turning plot. I think I'm sadly going to have to wait now for another installment but I'm sure it'll be worth it.
