One of my favourite volumes so far - I generally prefer the shorter Sandman stories to the longer arcs, and I loved the historical and geographical scope of this collection. Plus, corvids, always a bonus.

I love this series more and more. It gets deeper, richer, more and more layers reveal themselves. I loved the special about Baghdad and Haroun Al Raschid. At the point in the story where Haroun worries about whether or not his city will ever last, I thought to myself "It would be mind blowing if this story ends with images of present day Baghdad and how it has been shattered by war." And i don't want to add spoilers, but the ending was more than satisfactory.

Then there was the one about Orpheus. Wow!!

I do not have enough words in my vocabulary to do this series justice, but I am both sorry as well as happy that I have discovered this series so many years after it was written.

This volume features retellings of the stories of historical figures and how the events were influenced by Dream which is just a really cool idea.

My favourite of these were Orpheus - that whole thing was just insane! And also Ramadan right at the end.

This is the first volume of Sandman that I've given less that 5 stars as for some reason it just took me much longer to get through and I wasn't quite invested in some of the stories as others. This whole series is still incredible tho and blows my mind in nearly every issue.

Honestly, the only bad thing I have to say about this volume, which can be described as a collection of standalone short stories, is that one of the short stories contains excerpts from the journal of one of the characters and I found said character's handwriting to be barely readable. Other than that, this is a masterpiece. Not a single one of the short stories was bad. Each of them felt like it had something to say (be it about stories, dreams, failure, greed, kings and queens, myths, consequences). On top of that, each of them was entertaining and came together really well in the end. The art is different from one short story to another and it wasn't always to my taste, but some of it was absolutely to my taste. In particular the art in Song of Orpheus and Ramadan. Those colors! It's been a while since I read the earlier volumes, but I think this one is my favorite yet. It made me glad I picked up Sandman again and reminded me why Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite writers. Onto the next one!

Creepy and wonderful!

Intriguing, odd collection of ephemera but reading this alone for the Orpheus tale reboot is worth everything.

Still continuing on in this great series. I loved the meeting of history and graphic novel in this book.
