Such a fun story! It was one of the best-written novel of this length I've ever read. It had excellent description and depth. It was super fast-paced and exciting. The characters each seemed very believable and with their own personality. Most of the story is about the twins as they start to adapt to their new home and school - making new friends, standing up to the bully, and learning the neighborhood. Their father is military and they move around a lot. The other part of the story is them dealing with their mom having left under mysterious circumstances about a year ago. They receive a mysterious package, and have a strange neighbor. There are clues and codes to solve and one part of the mystery is uncovered by the end. That's the only part that's somewhat annoying - so much is still unknown. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, but this one gave me just enough that I liked the ending, even though it raised more questions than it answered. A great read for a younger reader (the twins are 11) who likes mysteries/spies. The only thing that was concerning as a parent was the "Don't tell your Dad" admonition from the adults in the story. It makes sense with the spy theme, and I'm sure it will be a major plot point in future novels, but I'm not a fan of kids keeping secrets - especially life and death secrets - from their parents. If I were a child, I would probably rate it 5 stars.

*4.5 stars* I started reading this for the Biannual Bibliothon for the “read a book that you know nothing about” challenge and so I didn’t expect to like this book as much as I did. Can’t wait to read the other books in the series!

What fun! A mix of 39 Clues and Chasing the Falconers and Chasing Vermeer - very fast paced.

Good, I liked solving the codes before I read the answers.

I forgot how much I loved spy books growing up. I actually only read the 3rd book in the series as a kid and decided it was time to know the whole story. Some parts took me a while because I wanted to figure out the code before moving on, but these codes were really well thought. Fast paced and can't wait to finish the next one.
