This was so interesting. Everyone needs to know her story!

Really great middle school bio about code breaker Elizebeth Smith Friedman. I knew nothing of her before this book. She was such an important code breaker and part of history yet we knew nothing of her and much of her work was credited to men. Well researched and perfect for narrative nonfiction lovers.

This is a really compelling story about a strong and intelligent woman, which I love! I did find the narrative a little scattered at times. Every once in a while the author would make some speculations about Friedman’s feelings at a particular moment that felt like a bit of a stretch. But overall it was a story worth reading. (I do have to say that as a professional historian I’d love to see the author engage in more historiography and pull in some broader historical themes to contextualize Friedman and her husband’s work, but as a leisure read this was delightful)

I enjoyed this book. I found that I knew more about code then I did. It wasn't as good as other bibliographies but it was interesting.

Interesting but reads too much like a text book which makes it less pleasant.
