I belive a big issue with this book is that it's supposed to be a seperate series than her other novels but the lore ties so heavily and isn't explained that if you havent read enough of her other books you're like wtf to a few things. The first half was interesting. Finding out how this quirky woman Pandora became a vampire in the Roman empire. About her life before and after that. Then, it just becomes okay what did Pandora do between that point and now. Which was a lot more boring and had feelings of "why should I care"?

I was disappointed by this book in that the protagonist is a 2 thousand year old vampire but 2/3 of the book focuses on the time in which she was human and the remaining third when she had just become a vampire. Like I wanted an epic tale of all the centuries she's lived through, it seems a waste not to do that with such an old vampire.
Historical events are discussed but none of the characters are involved so it's kind of like listening to a history lecture at some points which is why I marked this book down as informative. I just think the historical stuff could have been incorporated better.
Also her romance with Marius isn't believable. They like love each other instantly but the text never gives you any reason why Pandora should love Marius. In fact they argue a lot because Marius keeps trying to control Pandora. I might be biased because I've never liked Marius as a character but I also think it's bad writing.
