so good. wish it was longer. makes me sad not all the vampire chronicles are like this. such an interesting setting, really love pandora. marius still sucks but Pandora is a queen. just a solid book. would recommend this over the main vampire chronicles any day. reading this evokes the same emotion in me as the song She Took My Soul in Istanbul by Marc Almond. hope that makes sense.

I was disappointed by this book in that the protagonist is a 2 thousand year old vampire but 2/3 of the book focuses on the time in which she was human and the remaining third when she had just become a vampire. Like I wanted an epic tale of all the centuries she's lived through, it seems a waste not to do that with such an old vampire.
Historical events are discussed but none of the characters are involved so it's kind of like listening to a history lecture at some points which is why I marked this book down as informative. I just think the historical stuff could have been incorporated better.
Also her romance with Marius isn't believable. They like love each other instantly but the text never gives you any reason why Pandora should love Marius. In fact they argue a lot because Marius keeps trying to control Pandora. I might be biased because I've never liked Marius as a character but I also think it's bad writing.
