Ah, the memories...it's amazing how I can still remember what was going on in my life when I read some of these books!

A fun, sassy, and yet fond look back at the books we grew up reading.

I preordered this as soon as I heard about it (probably from a blog) and so very glad I did. I picked it up on Tuesday and had trouble putting it down for two days. Although the reviews/essays aren't very long and (thankfully) are free of critical-discourse-overload, I felt like Skurnick and her contributing authors took me back through all the books I loved as a tween/teen. I'd read most of the books covered in Shelf Discovery but I was intoduced to a few that slipped past my greedy library card. I've already made notes of which books to re-read (did someone say Madeleine L'Engle??); I had so many "omg, I LOVED that book!!" moments that I should give all those books some love again.

A list of reviews of a variety of titles (most seem to be by Judy Blume and Lois Duncan) that the author read as a teenager. Chapters are organized by different themes and have a couple of in-depth "book reports" and a few more reviews of titles.

Not a meaty annotated bibliography.

i think fine lines is just about the greatest thing to happen, ever. i loved reading about lizzie's life as a young reader almost as much as reading about the books. i was surprised by how few of these titles i've actually read and wished i had a better memory so as to jump back to what i was actually reading back in the day. i also found myself missing the jezebel commenters much more than i thought i would.

A book of essays about classic children's and teen books. I enjoyed the chapters about books that I loved as a kid, and was made aware of many others that I missed!

This was a wonderful book, especially since I have read 95% of the books discussed in it (even the horrible trashy ones.) The essays provided some interesting perspective on WHY my friends and I loved and re-read so many of these books.

This was a fun look back to the old YA books I remember when I was young. I was pleasantly surprised to see some titles that I have never read, so of course those are going on the to-read list.

I was disappointed that there were a few authors represented SO many times. Yes, Judy Blume and Lois Duncan were big in YA lit, but I wish I could have read about more authors.

Loved the essays. Loved rediscovering books I read as a girl. Hate that this is one of the most poorly edited books I've ever encountered. There's an error every 2 or 3 pages. It's so riddled with errors of every sort, I'm not convinced that this book had an editor or proofreader.
