I only read a piece of this. Pages 374-387 for Susan Howe’s conversation with Cole Swenson. Interestingly enough, the argument that war is a necessary prerequisite to great art is very interesting to me. The revolution
of 1848, the Franco-Prussian War, the Siege of 1870, and the Commune effecting Mallarmé, Duchamp living through both world wars..
