a bit of a confusing creature, and not at all what i expected — also a much tougher read than anticipated. it's ambitious & subtly funny.

Leaning towards three and a half really.

1. Some very intelligent writing, oozing with wit and dark humour, laced with a harsh commentary on the very times we live in.
2. Love Tanaz's voice, character and story arc.
3. It is quite a heavy book and the blurb does it no justice. It is one of those books where it is hard to say what the book is about.
4. What fails it is the meandering pace at times or the backstories and the extensive details which the book could have done a little less with.
5. Also there is just a little too much happening all the time, be it with the story itself or the suggestiveness of the text or even just the metaphors and the stylish prose.

Verdict: Power through the tough bits. It deserves a read.
