Cute. This reminds me of the Orca Soundings books—high/low books for unconfident readers who are old enough to handle more complex themes. (In fact, when I found this at the library—which took a moment because I'd automatically expected a much thicker spine—the first thing I did was check to see if Orca was the publisher.) There's not much by way of subplots here, but that actually works to the book's advantage, given its length.

Now, whether this is a relationship will stand the test of time...that's a question. But I love that Joshua learns to rethink the (fairly limited) amount he knows about drag at the beginning of the book, and that we're left with a sense of possibility for the future.
