An excellent little werewolf novella with some shades of Lovecraftian inspiration, although it leans more towards his genealogical horror rather than his better known cosmic horror. 12 eerie illustrations by Randy Broecker recall the style of EC Horror comics of the 1950s and are welcome editions to the atmosphere of the text. As no exact date for when the story takes place is given and the protagonist mentions serving in a war in Germany, perhaps this style is intentional to invoke the comics of that period. The subject matter and illustrations reminded me of the similarly themed Stephen King novel: Cycle of the Werewolf which would be published about four years later. I can’t help but to wonder if Elflandsson’s book perhaps served as some influence. It’s a same this book seems to have long gone out of print. I was fortunate to find a copy at my local used bookstore emporium. It doesn’t appear the author has had much work published besides this novel. It’s a same as his skills here show a potential master of the action horror thriller. If you can track this book down through your library or perhaps a legal digital edition you should do so.
