This wasn't a bad book, not the greatest he has written but okay in my book. The tension was a little lower than you get with some of the other books in the series.

Fear Street # 97

After a prank on a teacher lands Brittany Carson and her friends in hot-water, Mr. Emerson, principal of Shadyside Middle School, volunteers them to pay a visit to a sick classmate. Max Davidson was supposed to enroll in seventh grade, but hasn't been well enough to attend. On the way to Max's house on Fear Street Frankie Todaro convinces them to cut through the yard of reputed witch Mrs. Marder. They're caught and run away with her threats in their ears. At Max's house things get weird as Frankie is dealt a joker card with hideous art that, according to Frankie, screamed.

Frankie is such a kidder. We all know Frankie was the one who screamed, right?

Frankie is soon hunted by strange kids with goofy hats and gets an odd bruise on his arm, soon, so does Louisa Wong, and then Brittany herself. What happens when the game's over?

This was one of my absolute favorites growing up. I thought it was so creepy and was stunned at the reveals. As an adult, things are a little less opaque, but 'Spell of the Screaming Jokers' still rises above most in the series thanks to Katy Hall's writing.
