About the same as Truckers, though I liked the bit of extra focus on Dorcas and appreciated that Masklin was offscreen for most of it (not a compelling character for me).

This is the middle volume of the trilogy about the nomes, telling what the other nomes get up to while Masklin and his two companions are missing, presumed lost, on an expedition to the nearby airport.

I don't really need to say much about it because you'll read it if you liked the first volume, and not otherwise. It's satisfactory, but Masklin's story is the important part of the trilogy, and that's told in the first and third volumes.

A let down. After such a ripping start in the first book, a real let down. When a writer comes up with a brilliant idea of a setting, the novelty generally wears down in the second book. Hence, the writer has to come up with a better effort even to reach the level of the first one. But over here, I'm afraid Pratchett's heart wasn't in it. The storyline was weak. The quips Pratchett is famous for were scarce.
SpoilerThe main character goes away in the beginning of the book and there isn't any equally exciting character to take his place. The Gulliver like setting. The rampage using Jekeb was all over the top and seemed unnecessary and artificial.
And the end was confusing, sudden and absurd.

Having said that ranted above, the book is not rubbish as some of the second books I've read. But the hope were high....and hence the let down.
