I really enjoyed this read. It was a little hard to grasp the world-building at the beginning and I kept getting stuck on certain names that I couldn’t figure out how to pronounce.. (Caer-Isel, and Myrrdin, to name a few.) But once I got over those issues I flewww through this book. Couldn’t put it down.

This book is utterly heart wrenching.

The relationship between Effy and Preston is beautiful. I loved seeing them tentatively form an alliance, becoming friends, and falling in love.

This story has an almost fairytale-like feel to it with the Fairy King and Angharad. But the main premise is one that I feel every woman can relate to. Having men take whatever they want without guilt or repercussions while women constantly live in fear and shame. It’s heartbreaking. I loved seeing Effy finally overcome what was done to her and fight for herself.

My only complaints are around some of the world building. The war between Llyr and Argant didn’t make a whole lot of sense. I also was slightly confused by the Sleepers and the magic that comes from them

What a strange story! Full of mysteries, legends, tension and... some sort of magic the way words are stuck in my mind now! I really loved how original it is but I would say it's best to read it when your mind is at the right place as some parts of the story may trigger your brain if your mental is not strong... but really a great story to discover!
