The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter

The Bloody Chamber was a feminist book club read. Which I'm glad of. I think this one would've been a lot to sort in the world on my own. It's all fairytales. So, there's a recognizable framework, but the story gets turned on it's head--and not always in ways easy to decipher.

I will 100% re-read this one. And probably use it in my own writing. But I surely wish I'd not tried to read the whole thing in 48 hours. It's short enough, sure. But I missed a lot of the nuance. And the language & shocking juxtaposition of images is worth sitting with and not rushing.

Definitely consider this feminist retelling if you're into fairytales, myths, or the collective unconscious.

Finished reading 'The Bloody Chamber' by Angela Carter. Was good. Sometimes really good. Sometimes fine. Puss In Boots was awesome. 3 stars overall though, but I've never really been one for short story collections.
