I give this 2.5 stars. It gained .5 star for the last 3 pages.
I really want to like this series but I have felt let down by the first two books. The writing in Crown of Midnight is far better than Throne of Glass. BUT I can’t help but feeling there is so much unnecessary fluff between the two books and they could have been combined into one. After finishing the second book, I feel like the story hasn’t even started yet and this was all an extremely drawn out prelude. Yeah, I know a lot of stuff happened, but I didn’t find it all that interesting. Attempting to learn about wyrdmarks, not killing people but pretending to, trying to figure out riddles and failing... it all amounted to a whole lot of nothing actually being accomplished.
Apart from that, Chaol and Dorian both annoy me. They are cowardly and fairly one dimensional. Celaena seemed fairly one dimensional as well throughout the last two books. I realize that will probably change (I sincerely hope) in the next book. I wish the reader could have known about more of her inner conflict or thoughts about the king throughout the story. I feel this could have been done without giving the ending away. Without this aspect, she was a very unbelievable and unrelatable character to me.
I will read the next book in the hope that it really will get better, as everyone says. But I’d like the record to show that I am not pleased about it.

This book was phenomenal. I did not want to leave this world and was hooked by the plot and the characters and their relationships. I also loved that there was a subtle romance plot as well as the action and adventure parts (which had me on the edge of my seat.) I thought it was even better than the first book, which I also gave 5 stars, as it made me feel all emotions. I can't wait to read the rest of the series after the huge plot twist at the end.

I feel like this is the first book in the series where everything clicks and she starts to find her rhythm. Excited for the next one!

i’m honestly so impressed in my memory bc crown of midnight is just as i remembered it, although it wasn’t as unbearable as when i first read it (i think audiobook and physically reading it makes a difference) the storylines in this book were kinda trash but they were filler for when the real story starts in heir of fire.

i’m ngl i think i big reason why i don’t love this book is bc of celaena and chaol’s romance. when i first read this series over 2 years ago i originally shipped celaena and dorian lightly (knowing another love interest, rowan, was coming along) but after re reading the first two books i can confidently say i don’t really ship celaena with any of them. my biggest problems with chaol are that he’s insecure, he’s a hypocrite, and while he may love celaena he doesn’t like her. like how do you lover but you hate her for being an assassin like you can’t pick and choose tf.

i also didn’t really like nehemia, and i’m ngl when she died i was happy that i didn’t have to get her being so self-righteous all the time, i really don’t know how she expected celaena to lay down her life and risk her freedom for her, someone she’s known this girl for a few months like what.

i’m not even going to pretend to understand what’s going on with the wyrd keys and marks all that i know is that the king has one and that’s how he’s so powerful.

overall, i did enjoy this book. more that i did the last time i read it, but it there was just too much stuff going on, like i’m not even going to into the whole thing about the rebellion bc it’s just too much, but this book was okay
