This was not even close to what I had expected for how talked about this book is in certain circles. This did a good job at setting up characters, but the plot?? Where did it go??

I get the need for setting up the world and the magic, but I felt like I read through pages and pages of dialogue that simply did nothing to move the story along for me. It’s disappointing to read an entire book waiting for something just to realize that it’s essentially a set up for book two. I still have so many questions, but in a “will these really be answered” way, not an “omg I need the next book in my hands right now” kind of way.

Incredibly slow and way too much dialogue for me. It felt like the characters spent 90% of the book talking, 5% of the book hooking up, and 5% of the book actually doing anything else.

Interesting concept except the plot doesn’t seem to go anywhere until the end. At least the characters are multifaceted and somewhat interesting. The ending really sets up the next book that I’ll read eventually.
