Mariah Dunning's mother vanished over a year ago and she has searched endlessly to find her and bring her home safely. When she thought all clues had come up short she meets a a guy who is into unsolved crimes and sends her down a path she could have never predicted. Could her mother's disappearance have something to do with the disappearance of another Beth?

I always love a book where the person hunting down the clues is an amateur. I appreciate their innocence of following a clue that ends in a dead end and then when the case finally breaks open it is overwhelmingly exciting. I like these types of mysteries because I feel as though I am on the same playing field as the main character, they don't have any extra detective skills that I do not!

I do not think I can do a proper review without giving something away. All I can say is I did not see that coming and I am still not sure how all the pieces fit together that way. How so many random occurrences can culminate in that way.

I liked the general idea of this book and the many twists that took place. But there were a few times during the book that I felt there was too much going on.

A very convoluted thriller with an annoying lead character, and obvious, stupid answers. A big let down after reading An Ambush of Widows, an actually good thriller.

RATING: 3 STARS

I really enjoyed Jeff Abbott's last novel, [b:Blame|30842435|Blame|Jeff Abbott|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1469411214l/30842435._SY75_.jpg|51441805], so I was excited to start this title. I listened to this one on audiobook as well. The synopsis sounded interesting - a mother and wife goes missing, and her husband is labeled her killer by the community. Their young daughter stands by her father is pulled into the community gossip. Mariah thinks she sees her mom at a food court one day and goes into investigation mode. She discovers that two more women named Beth are missing as well. Is it a coincidence or will these cases help her uncover her mother's disappearance.

I don't know if it is the complicated unraveling of the mystery that turned me a bit off, or the slow story and suspense. Either way I just could not love this book. It was an okay mystery, and I definitely wanted to see how it all worked out in the end.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns of this novel and the complexity of the story line. I didn't see the ending until about 75% of the way in and then I just wanted to know how it all concluded.

An unbelievably stupid premise leads to a deeply unsatisfying ending with even less satisfying twists. Every character seems wholly unbelievable, with some seriously bonkers dialogue and internal monologues. Also I'm no mystery expert, but you can't have *every* *single* *character* cock a gun, look in a mirror and declare out loud to themselves that no one will ever learn their dark secret.

I thought this book was a great read (or listen since I had audio from libro.fm) I agree with many that the charecters were not particularly likeable but I felt they were very believable. I didn't believe Craig killed his wife but it was obvious he knew a lot more than he was disclosing. Mariah was obsessed and there had to be a reason. There were enough hints at lots of secrets to keep me glued to the audio book until all was disclosed.

It was interesting enough, too convoluted to be predictable. I can't even explain how it all went down. Too many moving parts. The ending just didn't come together for me
