This is a Christian novel. It was really great with its character building and attachments you form with each one. The only issue I really had with this story is that there aren't scriptures (other than as a header to each part) or any bit of the characters going to the Bible for help, though there was a lot of prayer throughout it. A lot of it was about listening for God's voice without going to His Word to hear Him speak, so that bothered me.

The story begins where Kirsten's boyfriend of 3 years has been growing impatient with her since she has held back much of herself from him (emotionally and physically). She wants to get married but he doesn't seem to want to. She has a secret she's been hiding from everyone. She has self-injury problems and no one will understand her. There are scars all over her body that she doesn't want anyone to see or know about, especially Wes.

After things got crazy where she ended up in a hospital, her best option is to go with an ex-nun named Sister Frankie to her ranch to get healing. She would rather go there than stay in the hospital or be around Wes or her family. She needs to sort things out and figure out what to do with her life.

To say this book is AMAZING! would be a major understatement. I shed my first tear on page 38 and was prompted to pray for and encourage someone in my life who for years I had been trying to avoid.

The dialogue was well crafted to include a lighthearted humor, while still maintaining the deep serious nature of the story. The story line may be a bit predictable at times, but then life sometimes IS predictable. The characters seem very real to me. I picture the Nudnik as a ten year old girl who follows Kirsten around adding witty comments; Which quite frankly cracks me up!

It’s a very sweet story however as someone who has dealt with SH in the past, I found some of it to be slightly triggering. While I agree that taking some time away can be beneficial, I also think therapy is necessary.

I didn't think Nancy Rue's books could possibly become any better. They were already just so amazing. Then, she found a partner. Rebecca St. James and Nancy Rue are an incredible team, and I hope they will write more books together in the future. This book was great. I read within a 24 hour period and had a very hard time putting it down. I am 16 years old, and while it wasn't gory, I would not recommend it for someone under the age of 14, just because of Kirsten's story as a cutter. But, for all you women out there 15 and up, you simply must read this book!

I really enjoyed this book. It was an amazing book. I had a lot of emotions as I was reading this book.

This is about a girl named Kirsten who went through some things and started to cut. On the night that she thought her boyfriend was going to ask her to marry him she finds out that he cheated on her. This time when an decides to cut herself it was a little deeper then she ment it to be. She ends up in the psych ward, which she knows that is not where she is supposed to be. She is not suicidal so her pastor tells her about this working ranch and she decides to go.

I loved this book so much and I definitely liked most of the characters in this book. When Kirsten is at the ranch she grows so much. With the help of the people there at the ranch help her to deal with the pain that she has and do it in a way where she does not have to cut anymore.

There were many times where there were funny moments, cried because of sadder moments and worried about the characters. It was a great book.

I thought this was a very good book. The way it was written, to the characters and their stories to the history of the ranch. I loved where the book began with us barely knowing Kirsten and what she has been through to discovering more and more about her as time went on through the story. I thought the story had a great beginning with her not really knowing what she was doing with her career and why she was taking the course she was taking to what she thought of her relationship with Wes. She wasn't really sure what she thought about the whole matter and it really made the reader think, did this girl really know where she was at with her life and did she know what she was doing? I think the way that it was written in first person you could really connect with her on a personally level and know exactly was she was thinking and how she was feeling. I loved the way it continued to build up and it ended with her in the hospital because that is really what happens sometimes today and that teenagers and young adults have to go through this all the time. I think this book really showed that even when she woke up she didn't have any second thought about being saved. You could tell she wanted to live and she wanted things to change.

I liked how rather than Kirsten going into a professionals hands for help she left with sister Frankie and travelled all the way up to the ranch to change her fate. I loved the way she just tried to go about life as if nothing has ever happened and even though she didn't understand what was going on. I loved how the author introduced Andy as this confusing and mysterious character that we knew nothing about and had problems of his own I loved how they weren't in love right away and it took time for things to start changing around them and for them to like and eventually love one another.

All in all I loved this book a would read it again die to me relating to it. I loved everything about it book and it didn't take long for me to get hooked.

UPDATE 2/12/16: It has been several months since I read this book, and yet I'm still thinking about it. I'm changing this from 4 to 5 stars.

I FINALLY FINISHED THIS BOOK!!! It took me almost exactly two months to read this book. It was very slow moving. It was hard to read even a chapter a day. But it was worth getting to the end. Other than how long it took me to read it, I really liked this book. I almost felt like I was Kirsten at some points. You could almost literally feel her pain as she was crying. You could almost feel everyone's emotions actually. I don't know why it was so hard to read though. I am very confused about that. There were one or two moments in the book where I got close to crying, and as I've said before, that's big. I never cry while reading. I never have gotten to the actual tears falling down my face part, but with a few books, I've gotten close. But anyway, if you don't mind this book taking a while to read, it's worth reading.

Clean rating: because this is a book about self-harm, there's obviously some "violence", and in the beginning and briefly in the middle, people talked about certain adult romance things ("strong romance") if you know what I mean. :)
