What is there not to like about this book and being at Ivy Hatch.
The story is about a young woman called Prue whose grandmother a Clemonte has just passed away leaving everything in her very wealthy estate to young Prue, who is works in an auction house in Bristol.
Prue has to come back to Ivy Hatch and try to make good with the village folk who dislike all things to do with her family because they own all the land practically and all the houses.
Prue has a job on her hand to win them over and also discovers she is now the owner of a vintage bookshop that once belonged to her mother, and then Prue discovers her mother's journal and is on a quest to find her father.
Like any good romance and cosy book is a love interest and in this case it's Elliot, the son of a landowner who particularly hates the Çlemonte family.
A truly beautiful and cosy read and if you're looking for a quick read, this book is perfect for you.
Holland writes a good book that transports you into the world she has created within and you feel at one with the well rounded characters and the village of Ivy Hatch. If you've not read her other books then do check them out, as they're all written so well and will leave you with a blissful sigh at the end and that HEA feeling you'd expect from a romance.

I loved this charming romance novel with a lovely heroine determined to discover the secrets of her past while honoring her mother and grandmother’s memories. Prue was such a fun character with her love of all things vintage. Her flair for 40’s clothes and even driving a Bentley just gave the book such a fun and different feel to it. She comes back to her little village of Ivy Hatch in Sommerset after the death of her grandmother and begins a journey of trying to learn more about her past through notes found in books in the vintage bookshop her mother used to own and later through letters and a diary that may spell out the clues towards finding her father. There are lots of prejudices in this book and misunderstandings and Prue and her family have effectively been shunned for years because of class differences. I loved watching her romance with Elliott develop and loved seeing Prue discover more about her true authentic self, especially. Every time I read one of Elizabeth Holland’s books, it feels like a breath of fresh air. They’re so charming and relaxing to curl up with. I can’t wait for the next one! 5/5 stars.

A Charming Tale of Romance and Self-Discovery!
Following the death of her Grandmother, adorably awkward Prue returns to the small village of Ivy Hatch to take her place as landlord and occupant of Clemonte Manor. Far from a warm welcome, she is treated with distrust and disdain by most of the villagers. She begins a search for secrets long hidden from her, meets a handsome gentleman, and learns about her own identity. This is a sweet, clean romance that I can recommend to anyone!

I absolutely loved this story! It wasn’t just a love story between two people, but also a story of a woman finding and loving herself.

Prue Clemonte has come back from the busy city because her grandmother has passed away. She comes to learn that at some point in her life, her grandmother purchased all the land in the village and it is now hers. All of it, including her mother’s bookshop that she had no idea existed. Problem is, nobody but one person likes her, and she’s all alone now with her grandmother gone and with her mother passing away long ago. See, there are secrets among the village and her family of which she was unaware.

They only person to like her from the beginning Elliot Harrington, and his father his her worst critic of all. They meet in her new bookshop just as her parents did. In fact there are a lot of similarities. But will there be a repeat of her of her mother’s almost love story like she fears or will they have a happily ever after?

This book tells her story of how she became a strong woman and into her own. She learns more about herself in the few months back to the village than she ever has. Prue Clemonte has learned to stop living in the past and move forward into her future.

I couldn’t put this book down and I’m quite sure my husband wasn’t happy about it haha. Ms. Holland put so much detail into this story and it was so easy to imagine everything! I love when I can be easily transported to a characters life because of all of the detail put into a story.

I’d have to say that Maggie is probably my favorite character of the story. She wanted so bad to be there for Prue and in the end she was strong enough to do just that. I don’t want to give too much away, but you will see what I mean when you read it!

If you have read it or when you read it, let me know what you think!

*Side note*. If you read the story Chocolat, this story reminds me a little bit of it. It’s not surprising that I absolutely love both.

I had some personal issues with this book, but the premise is good and if you like books about inherited outsiders, old manors, family secrets, and budding romances, this might be just the book for you.

Pour yourself a gin fizz for this sweet, heartfelt romance. When vintage fashion aficionado Prue inherits the estate of her grandmother, she finds she's inherited a heap of trouble and a village who wants nothing to do with her--and a bookshop once run by her own mother, who died when she was a small child. Prue has to navigate settling all these affairs in order, conflicting opinions about how she should live her life, and even who she should love, all while delving into the secrets her mother kept--including her own paternity. A charming read!

Sometimes life is strange.

Elizabeth Holland brings us this marvelous story of Prue. When she inherits her grandmother's estate she didn't know what she would find. This is a romance with a little mystery. I found it charming and relaxing.

Charming premise

I loved the idea at the centre of this gentle and easy to read story. This may not be my genre, but I could immediately picture a film of this set up - along the lines of The Holiday or P.S. I Love You. If anything I would have liked more about the books and the bookshop! In these troubled times, if you want a whimsical escape with a dash of romance then this book could be for you!
