Taking these five books as a whole, this is a very enjoyable series. I found the first book to be the one I struggled with the most, but after that I really enjoyed all of them. I think the character of Witch Baby is the most fleshed out and I can see why Block relates most to her.

I’m giving it five * for the book I read when I was 20.

I honestly couldn't even finish this book. I love her writing style, but the blatant cultural appropriation was just too much for me.

Would've been better if they were written by anyone else. Except Dan Brown.

I've read these books over and over. The author has a way of creating language that is resonant and beautiful. Forgive my spelling, I'm sick as a dog...[b:Missing Angel Juan|141966|Missing Angel Juan (Weetzie Bat)|Francesca Lia Block|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1172132307s/141966.jpg|1514] is by far my favorite, because Witch Baby quest to be okay with someone and by herself is something all women go through, I think. Whatever. It kicks ass.

This collection was just really fantastic. I had no idea what I was getting into, but even without realizing that these are modern fairy tales, I was completely in love with it. It made me miss Los Angeles a lot. The only thing I object to--and maybe it's just a small thing for everybody else, but it did bother me--was sticking with your "true love" even after he cheats on you. And not even really talking about how much it hurt that he did that. Not one cuckolded lady leaves her cheating man. I applaud the depictions of love, those dangerous angels, in all their forms, but I would have liked to see a character strong enough to leave a relationship after her man cheats on her. Part of loving one's self is knowing when to leave, and that takes more guts than staying. But I still think it was a great collection, and if I ever have kids, this will be on their reading list early.

I don't normally give up on books, something really has to be bad or piss me off for me to put it down and never pick it up again and this book did both. I understand that not all fiction is realistic but as a book aimed at young adults this book encouraged some terrible behaviour and had some awfully bad parenting going on (lets go off and be all artistic and leave 2 young girls alone in the house, adult supervision provided by a Native American who lives a distance away and often is unavailable due to vision quests...). I didn't find the characters in this book cool or interesting, I found them irresponsible and self centred, they were far more interested in being cool than providing a safe and healthy environment for their children to live in. There's letting kids be who they are and there's leaving them adrift with absolutely no guidance. On top of it all the character's names were just very annoying too and made me cringe each time I read them.

I got into the 4th book and could take no more, it's going into the bag for the charity shop and I'll be glad to not have it in my house anymore.
