Oh wow, that was an entertaining read. It read like a crazy summer action blockbuster and was splendid for it. It was filled with action, intrigue and good ol' head bashing. As another reader put it, it was a great "popcorn read". The book contained quite a few grammatical errors but it could be chalked up to it being self-published. Don't let that detract you from the story though, Currie is a bonafide action/sci-fi author.

The story of the entire series is doubtlessly a bit weird. I mean, an alien machine race opposed to all (biological) life wants to destroy humanity so it turns some of them into super-humans. Weird right? Okay, maybe I should add that it also increases the aggressive traits in these humans with the hope that humanity will destroy itself. Still weird though. I guess I one has to commend Evan Currie for his fantasy and for producing something new though.

Normally Evan Currie writes fairly epic space operas with, mostly, really good stories behind them. At least in the books from him that I’ve read . This series is more a cross between his normal stories and some Marvel comic. Luckily without the SJW, feminazi and political rubbish that comes with Marvel’s creations all too often nowadays. Instead the main protagonist is a heroic marine that would rather die than to betray his marine values and honor.

As in the previous book there’s a lot of superhuman action. However, towards the end of this episode Hale & Co are finally going after the probe that has wrecked havoc on Earth. It’s a fairly epic piece of action that would do well in some CGI and special effects loaded cinema blockbuster. It even includes SR-71 Blackbirds slugging it out against an alien probe!

It was indeed an entertaining book to read.

Overall though, as entertaining as the book was, I cannot really give it more than three stars out of five. The book is really like a superhero comic book but without the pictures. It’s fun to read and the story do perhaps have a little more depth than the average comic book but that’s about it. It’s more driven by the plentiful action than by the story itself.

Having said that, I’m really keen on seeing where the story goes after this. After all, now humanity knows what is (was?) the cause of all the disturbances and that there is an alien presence out there that are not of the friendly ET kind.
