I've found this laying around the house this morning and I gave it another read. It's better than I remember, the end brought me to tears again. Damn you, Michael Morpurgo.

Such a cute read! Heartbreaking but heartwarming at the same time.

3.5/5 Short but impactful chapter book for young readers aged 10+ told from the perspective of a young boy who finds himself trapped in a coma after an accident. Intriguing and emotionally charged, you find yourself willing Robbie to just wake up throughout the story. The newspaper articles dotted between chapters are an interesting addition and offer an opportunity to compare the narrators voice and the journalists voice with pupils from 4th - 6th class. Ultimately there is a happy ending which is a relief but a little disappointing as it felt contrived and misaligned with the rest of the story, however given the young age of the target audience it makes sense to allow them to leave the novel feeling hopeful and positive!
