I'm glad I finally read the book, as I actually should know it, but there was plenty of new things for me (and I made notes). It's in general rather sad book, describing misfortunes and bad behaviour and it left me feeling sad.
Also sad is the fact that there are multiple errors in the book (Hus being from 13th century or invasion in 1969) which really shouldn't happen, especially as the book is meant for foreign readers.
The stories are written nicely, they are short and it's pleasant read.

Jak zazwyczaj nieziemsko męczę się z reportażami, ten mnie pochłonął. O Czechach (i państwie i ludziach) wiem tyle co nic i nigdy dowiadywać się nie planowałam, sięgnęłam z polecenia, ale teraz czuję niedosyt. Ustawienie wszystkiego przez Kafkę było genialne, choć oczywiście nie zaczaiłam na początku… Świetne świetne świetne świetne, czytajcie.

Schwer zu sagen, ob es irgendjemanden im Westen interessieren könnte, was ein Pole über die Tschechen zu sagen hat. Wenn ein Journalist aus einem nebensächlichen osteuropäischen Land über ein anderes nebensächliches Land schreibt, ist es schwer an Erfolg zu glauben.

Powstrzymam się z oceną tej książki do czasu aż omówimy ją na zajęciach. Chociaż jak na razie nie czuję, żeby reportaże były dla mnie.

Kniha, o které jsem dlouho slýchal, než jsem se k ní sám dostal. Celkově mi to přijde jako velmi zajímavý náhled na některé příběhy nedávné české historie. Vnější pohled autora je očišťuje od spousty dalších událostí nebo myšlenek, které s nimi máme my Češi spojené.
Pro mne asi nejzajímavější částí bylo vyprávění o Tomáši Baťovi. Na toho někdy pohlížíme až příliš shovívavě a nostalgicky. Tady je vykreslený mnohem plastičtější obraz.
