Some of these are really awesome but there's a lot of repetition and some are just not great. But my 6 year old enjoyed most of them so it was worth a listen. We listened to it on librivox and not all readers are created equal so that might have been why I enjoyed some so much more than others. I like that they aren't dumbed down for kids and still include the scary and not so happy parts cuz it's good for kids to be exposed to that kind of stuff a little bit too. I think when my youngest is old enough I will pick and choose just my favorites and not read all of them.

Fairy tales repeat a lot of similar motifs, so collections can feel repetitive. This collection features a variety of common fairy tale tropes, but arranges them so that even though they're familiar it doesn't feel like reading the same story multiple times. I discovered some variations on stories I already know, and really like and the illustrations in this edition are beautiful.

Five stars for nostalgia. This book has lived in four countries with me and suffered hundreds of readings. Every story is an old friend.

I read a lot of fairy tales, both as a kid and as an adult. Unfortunately, all the stories are starting to look the same: a young boy, a young girl, some misfortune, an antagonist, some magic and the happy ending.
I believe that's the reason why I didn't enjoyed this book as I'm supposed to.

Does what says on tin. The color fairy books are such a glorious part of my childhood.

Read about half before returning to the library. Enough to say confidently that nothing I ever come up with will be as wild and crazy as fairy tales, so, we fantasy writers can go to town with our own work. :)

There were a few fairy tales I hadn't heard of before but nothing truly spectacular. And they are so repetitious... with all the tales out there I'm surprised Lang put so many similar ones in one book.
