2/5 but maybe a 3? It's crass in a tiringly obvious way and rubbish for different reasons that the TV series was rubbish, but it's still an intriguing concept and so I'm probably going to read more. It's like if Watchmen had more back story, was longer and not so into cod philosophy.

After watching the first season of the television series, I decided to reread The Boys. It had been several years, and I had forgotten how over the top the comics were, just how much the show tones things down (and simplified things).

It's crass, violent, disgusting, and I kind of loved it? I definitely want to watch the show (though I don't want to pay for Amazon Prime). The premise is basically following who "watches the watchmen" with a TON of morally-gray characters.
Our main character is Hughie, who is basically the love child of Simon Pegg and Joe Pantoliano in appearance (the artist says he based him on the former so no surprises there). His girlfriend got literally torn from him by a careless speedster superhero and he wants justice, so he gets recruited by Billy Butcher to The Boys, a CIA-backed group designed to keep superheroes in check.
Some great tidbits:
-"Captain America/Superman" analog demanding sexual favors from the corn-fed, God-fearing innocent new to the group
-"Batman/Iron Man" analog afflicted with unexplained and irresistible sexual impulses
-"Teen Titans" (I'm assuming) analogs shenanigans in a whorehouse where sex workers have to snort super-coke just to keep up
Definitely don't read unless you have an appreciation for the sleazy.
