This book felt slightly simplistic, but overall there is a ring of authenticity to it. While the main character doesn't face any large horrific situation, she instead suffers from smaller and much more common issues of bullying, fitting in, dealing with bad teachers and absent parents, and learning to make friends. Middle grade readers could benefit from reading this realistic fiction.
