This series has a continuing story arc

Melissa and Derek's relationship continues to develop in this story, with her psychotic ex-husband always in the background. Because they're still living separately, he in Princeton, New Jersey, she in Raleigh, North Carolina, Derek is worried that he can't adequately protect her from what he feels is certain retribution from Sloan so he enlists his partner Patrick's help who's already relocated to be near Elaine.

I enjoyed this story as the focus was more on the deepening relationship between Melissa and Derek. The interesting plan to trap Sloan involved some strange "bedfellows" and the way that plot unfolded is sure to create issues down the road. There were some creepy moments, too, that added to the intrigue, though this was definitely more about the romance.

I really liked the use of dual narrators, too. While it can be a little odd that they only perform separately when the story transitions between Melissa's and Derek's points of view and not throughout the story, it all works in the end. I especially liked Christian Fox's performance.

Based on how this story ended, there are sure to be repercussions in later stories. While I'd only committed to reading the first three books in this series, I fear that plan is now shot:)
