Great Semi dark read. I would've finished in one sitting if it wasn't for me having to do other pesky things like work and eat. Only reason that it wasn't five because I found myself not really caring and being really annoyed by all her family backstory. I know it's essential to the story but in the end what she chose to do without her family support is what she could've done from the jump.
Holy whiplash batman! I did NOT see that coming! ... Wait, let me back up. First off, there is a cliffhanger. So, warning to those who aren't patient for a continuation on a story, you are warned. The next book, Cunning, is scheduled to come out January 19. So before you go read this and then cry over the ending, I have warned you. But that ending.... oh that ending. It solidified the over-the-top rating for this book!
After meeting Alexandria and Nox for a week, I was left wondering just how their lives would intercept again. I knew they had to. They are the basis of this story. So, I kept wondering when it would happen and how.
I got to follow these characters through their tumuluous meeting and week-long fling. Then I got to see the aftermath of how much their fling affected them aftwards. All the while, begging for these two to be reunited. But this is Aleatha. Nothing is ever that simple. Nothing is ever that easy. This wouldn't be an Aleatha book without it being tortuous, slow and painful. In true Aleatha-form, this story played out slow and painful. I loved every last second of it!
Now, at first, I thought of comparing this book to Consequences. However, that wouldn't be fair to either book. They are nothing alike. The only likeness they really have is that they are both written by the same person and they have some unbelievable twists and turns. The comparison stops there. So I can't really compare them. I can say that this book left me jaw on the ground and my heart beating out of my chest.
If you haven't read any of Aleatha's books before, I feel I need to warn you. This is not a fairytale love story. None of her books are. They are raw and will have your adrenaline pumping from start to finish. They are the other side of a fairytale. They are fairytales gone wrong, but in the best possible way. You find yourself in the most love-hate state of mind you could imagine. To say that I continue to be an Aleatha cheerleader is an understatement.
Buckle-up, fasten your seatbelt and be ready for a new ride with Alexandria and Nox... you new favorite characters to talk about for the forseeable future!

I didnt like the writing, the dialogue seems off, and im already at 23% but i kept putting this down because its as if ive already read this a thousand times.
I found the first in this series a good read. It set up the story, although I am not sure I am going to like where it is going. What I didn't like was it jumping to Nox's point of view at the end. I guess there wasn't any other great way of getting that info, and I knew what was going to happen anyway.
Once again, Ms Romig takes us on a ride with twists and turns. I love these two characters already. But, of course, there is a major cliffhanger! Which is why with her books, I wait to start reading them until all the books are out in the series.
**I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.**
Alexandria (Alex/Charli) comes from a very distinguished southern family. A family that has rules, rules that must be followed. Her life has been unknowingly planned out for her, whether she approves or not.
Alex is done living under the thumb of her family. When she takes a week to "find" herself, she finds way more than she bargained for. Calling herself Charli with no last name, seems the easiest way to not be herself, to be free. When she meets Nox, she knows she can be whoever she wants with him. She can let herself use him, to have fun, to be that free girl she's always dreamed of being.
"Limits. Charli. I'm going to fuck you like you've never been fucked. Tell me now if I've crossed that limit. Tell me now if you don't want this."
Nox is sexy and demanding and has rules of his own, but those rules Charli has no problem adhering to. It's one week. That's all. She can give herself to him for one week.
I loved the fast pace of Betrayal. I couldn't put it down. I loved the chemistry between Nox and Charli. The build up to the twist at the end, I saw it coming but I couldn't wait to get there. January seems way to far off to find out what happens next.

She does it again!
Good! Can't wait to see where this story goes. Intrigued, if I say so myself. Aleatha is one of my all time favorite authors.
