I did really enjoy this, though I did find it a bit slow at times.

Certainly piqued my interest in what happened during and after the English Civil War.
The author included snippets of what characters were thinking, but that only seemed to be around making secretive plans or worrying about the results of those plans, not much about their reasons why. The coffee shop conversations gave opportunity to learn a bit more about the opinions at the time, but it would have been nice to delve more into that.

The main character, Damian Seeker is not a very likeable man to begin with, but he thaws gradually as the book progresses.
It is set in a difficult time, Oliver Cromwell's Protectorate.  Lots of intrigue to kill Cromwell and reinstate Charles ll. Seeker's job is to root out the plots. He gets involved when a leading soldier is murdered and he doesn't believe the obvious suspect did it. A web of intrigue and plots is gradually uncovered. Will justice be served? Even if the letter if the law is not necessarily kept?
The books has an authentic feel to it and I look forward to the next installment
