I really enjoyed this one. I like alternative takes on age old characters. This Batman gets his poor ass beaten nearly to death multiple times and that's fun. Futuristic, with a unique take on the history of Batman which I also liked and I absolutely loved the costume. Imagine Batman on a budget. Beautiful art, though sometimes hard to follow.

Pope’s artwork gives everything in the book a twisted, off-kilter feel, really bringing the uncertainly and darkness of this dystopia to life. Everything is dark, wet, and cold. Anyone who has slammed their hand in a car door during a cold, wet day knows that EVERYTHING hurts more when it’s cold. There’s also something very satisfying about a Batman whose outfit never seems to fit just right - boot laces look as if they’ll unravel at any moment, bringing the mighty to the ground. The sags in the costume make readers wonder if Bruce Wayne is susceptible to the unkind ravages of aging.

This trade features a bonus story at the end, of a Jewish Bruce Wayne fighting Nazi oppressors so that a manuscript criticizing Nazi party policies may be read by the masses. It’s a free speech story I hope all of us can get behind!
