This was so adorable! The art is just perfect! I wish Rosa had been drawn closer to her age at the time of the events, but I understand this is a children's book so they probably wanted to keep it more relatable. But even still,  I loved how this teaches children of Rosa and her love for painting & animals.

A delightful true tale, with a lot of timeline liberties. Throughout the book, Rosa Bonheur is portrayed as a young girl, under the age of 10, but the majority of what occurs in this book happened when Rosa was well into her 20s. However, this choice was obviously made so younger readers would identify more with the artist.

When you do a picture book about an artist, you've got a really big challenge on your hands. How do you draw in your own style AND portray the style of the subject artist? But Anna Bron did a wonderful job, here. We don't see a lot of Bonheur's work through Bron's lens, but there's particular focus on "The Horse Fair," and we can see how each figure and post of the original work is filtered through a more cartoonish style. Quite delightful!

A good, quick biography. I only wish there had been a few more of Bonheur's original works reprinted at the end of the book. There's one, but it's TINY, and it's not even "The Horse Fair!"

I absolutely LOVED this!

Horses have always been my favorite animals so I was already intrigued by the title and then reading more of the synopsis of the book had me even more interested. I love how so many books now are writing about historical women that were prominent and talented in their field but were overlooked by straight, white, male history.

The art of the book itself was fun and fitting and I am so excited to go and read more about Rosa Bonheur and recommend this book to so many kids!

My only complaint is that it was too short, which I understand for a children's book, but even then I think it could have been a little longer.
