Man, it took me like a year and a half to read this book! I originally started it via audio with my husband, but we were so confused that we had to stop. And then I started it via book on my own and that helped a little compared to the audio, but I still didn't feel I was really understanding. I couldn't really get into the book until about halfway through.
This was deeper fantasy than I'm used to, so figuring out the world and new vocabulary terms was tricky at the beginning. Plus it was told from the perspective of 3 characters and that in itself is always a challenge to puzzle each piece together into the story. And this also had a lot of religious politics, which added another element I had to learn in the fantasy world. Understanding Hrathen's motives and role in the book was the hardest at the beginning.
All that being said, once I finally "got it" I really enjoyed the story. Raoden and Sarene are the cutest couple! His reveal to her that he was in fact her husband was my favorite part. Had some Beauty and the Beast vibes there.

Not my favorite Sanderson, but it was still a Sanderson novel so of course it was good!
