I really enjoyed this book. However the writing style and multiple POVs drove me nuts. The plot kept me interested though.

What I noticed right away was that I didn't feel like I was reading about a romance or baseball. Yes, there was a romance. That was clear from the beginning. Heck, that's clear from the cover. And yes, there was baseball. But, it wasn't about baseball. And it wasn't just about romance. It was about the people playing baseball and the people experiencing the romance. And that's what hooked me. The people. Lyssa writes real people. They swear. A lot. They get mad. They get drunk. They scream. They cry. You can sense their frustration, their grief, their anguish. When Nicki goes running, I felt like running. And I don't run. And you get mad at them. You hate them for being so stupid, for not seeing what is right in front of them. You feel for them. And with them.

Eric is the pitcher for the Major League Baseball team Las Vegas Aces. After a terrible performance in the World Series, he’s been given spring training to improve or he’s out. When they tell him a new pitching coach is coming to help him - he’s glad for the assistance until he learns who it is. Nicki is the woman he dumped when he got called up from the minors. Nicki has been dreaming of this job for years - but didn’t anticipate having to work with Eric.
Seventh Inning Heat was a quick read. Despite the fact that I don’t care about baseball at all - I enjoyed this story. I really loved that while there is one main couple there’s also a secondary couple who I hope will be getting their own book soon.
Content warning: past sexual assault is a major plot point throughout the story.
