Crash is definitely not a book for everyone. It's violent, its sexual, its weird, and I totally get why a lot of people wouldn't vibe with it. In fact, I didn't really vibe with it at the start, but I could have never left this book unfinished. Even in its repetitiveness, I couldn't help but keep reading. Ballard's writing is so captivating and vivid in a way I have yet to find with other authors. An absolutely amazing novel for lovers of avant-garde fiction.

I love perverts, but it got kinda boring somewhere along the way. It probably doesn't help that I don't really know anything about cars, which made following certain scenes harder than necessary.

I also found it to be "dry" at times, like I had no incentive to keep reading, so I finished it even slower than usual. It's probably because it feels like things aren't really happening at all in this book... which is strange, since I usually don't mind books like that and end up enjoying them a lot sometimes!

I wanted to like this more, but hey, now I can go watch the movie!

Crash is extremely repetitive and not very enjoyable. But somehow it's SO filthy and unpleasant that I'm just glad it exists.

I DNF-ed this after around 80 pages, because I love myself more than making myself read this book, even though it is for one of my classes. Although the reason for this novel's existence is present in the introduction, I still cannot understand why you would write such a thing. Absolutely gross, way too much talk about sex for a novel that barely has any plot carrying it, and the greater notion tying this book together is just??? meh?? okay, we're all going to die in a cosmic car crash. Cry me a river. Why is your dick getting hard at the idea?

too much to be said, really. when reading this it’s tempting to focus on ballard’s ‘stylization’(in his usage), his bluntly lurid prose, his hypnotic descriptions of angles and ramps and radiator grilles. but what he’s wedged underneath that is the hidden brunt of this story, which is the initial car crash bringing a realization of modern isolation, and the increasingly desperate pursuits not only to find connection but to make sense of a world that has been completely divided from natural construction and landscape.

there’s a thousand pieces of analysis i have in my head but i don’t have the time. it’s just a brilliant book, yes, wrapped in language meant to ‘rub the human face in its own vomit’, and better for it.
