Interesting. A tad predictable near the end.

One of the prizes that @bodiesinbooks has included in the #literaryfifteen challenge is the AKO Caine Prize for African Writing which is awarded to an African author for a short story published in English. My pick (although I will probably read them all at some stage) was Five Years Next Sunday, which turned out to be the winner. It’s the story of a young woman whose hair holds the power to bring rain. Her community fears her yet also needs her. It explores themes like race, power, agency, control, colonialism and white saviourism. And of course the power and significance of Black hair. I’ll be keeping my eye out for whatever Idza Luhumyo writes next.
