I really appreciated how the novel addresses the problem of translators hired by American troops not given American asylum at the end of their service; that's an actual epidemic throughout the middle east. Not only that but both story lines feel incredibly personal. This is the first novel based on the Iraq conflict that I've read, incredibly satisfying in its harrowing fictional accounts.
