This book is so fucking sad and slow paced. I read it in 3 days and loved it.
I didnāt expect to even like this book. Iām not one for the ābest friendās brotherā trope or wattpad writers, but here I am ugly sobbing over it.
The characters are lovable in a heartbreaking sort of way. Truman was really relatable to me, which isnāt something I say about many characters. I cried in probably every chapter from his POV.
This book is probably not for everyone. Not much gets resolved plot-wise, and the characters blaming themselves for Katieās accident is constant and not very logical, but thatās just how grief is.
I really liked that the two main characters handled their grief and depression in different ways.

Alex Light is an amazing writer. This book was so beautifully written and the characters really felt like real people with real and complicated emotions. Iāve never been in a situation like Eden or Truman, but I understood them. I also loved how she humanized Katie. She wasnāt just their loved one that they raised on a pedestal because she wasnāt with them, since she had flaws too. Flaws that still impact her best friend and her brother.
I also loved Eden and Trumanās chemistry. I thought they were really sweet.
My problem is that the plot doesnāt really start until like 70% through the book. I would have loved to see Truman and Eden interact in the present day more than we do.
I also usually donāt like an ending like that, though, it did feel right for this situation.

God, this book broke my heart. And then fixed it all over again. I also annotated the hell out of Meet Me In The Middle!!
Reading MMITM was a whole experience. It was filled with tears, laughter and of course, hope. It made me want to run to my best friend at 3 AM and hug her and tell her how grateful I am for our friendship. š„ŗ The story made me appreciate the people I have around me more.
Alex Light's writing my gosh - how can this woman portray emotions so poetically???? I lost count of the number of lines I underlined - some quotes pierced my heart and made me stop reading and just ponder because "WHAT IN THE LYRICAL WORLD DID I JUST READ?" š
Eden and Truman have my whole heart. The story of these two, broken people was everything I needed right now. I loved how they understood each other so well. The conversations they had and the way they shared their grief over Katie's accident were really touching. The author expressed the emotions and the pain the characters felt so realistically.
Meet Me In the Middle follows more of a character-driven story than a plot-driven one. But for the first time (probably), I had no problem with it. Because connecting with Eden and Truman's through their POVs was the best thing ever.
I wish there was an epilogue at the end of the book, though. š
