Wow! Well that certainly was not what I expected but I sure am glad I read about these two amazing women!

Meh. Not great writing and the story was so simple. No complexity to the story or situation.

Beautifully written. The author tells her story of how a very special woman, Joy Wiebe, entered her life at just the right moment and saved her on a truck ride on The Dalton Highway in Alaska. It's a story of abuse, religion, redemption, and the power of the sisterhood.

Oof. I should have checked content warnings on this one before I read it. Still would have read it probably but would have been able to armor myself a bit first. I picked it up during a time I'd read a couple other books about long haul trucking then it sat on my Kindle for a while so I'd forgotten anything I knew about it other than the trucking part. I'm glad I finally read it but it had some tough spots for me emotionally.

Not at all what I was expecting based on the publisher's blurb, but excellent read and excellent timing for me to read it.

3.5 Stars. I didn't not like this book. But it was not what I expected. Based on the title, I thought it would be a lot more about Joy "Mothertrucker" and the actual trip on the Dalton Highway. While those details are sprinkled throughout, this book is more of a memoir of the author's mental/emotional journey of ending an abusive relationship. Definitely kept me engaged, and sheds much needed light on how prevalent domestic abuse is, as well as how difficult it can be for a victim to leave the abusive relationship. But, it was just not what I was expecting when I picked this as my Amazon First Reads choice.

The only other thing that kept me from giving this 4 stars was the author's writing style in places. She would cut up quotes in a way that just felt choppy and disjointed to me. For example "I would really like," I said, "to meet you." (pg. 10 of the e-book version). She seemed to do that a lot more earlier on, or maybe I just got used to it by the end that it wasn't grating on me as much.
