The Good Immigrant comprises twenty-one essays by British BAME authors who discuss their experience of being an immigrant/person of colour in Britain. The authors discuss topics such as hate crime, culture, and one of the most interesting topics to me personally, representation. I recommend this book, especially if you are an immigrant or person of colour living in the UK as it’s highly relatable. I do also think white Brits could learn a lot by reading this book. Sometimes people don’t realise the privilege they have. ‘I consider how the sea has inspired a thousand clichés, about never feeling quite whole.’

The Good Immigrant gave an insight into the lives of black, Asian and other ethnicity living in Britain. Since it is the collection from 21 authors, I enjoyed some and dragged myself through some. I don't particularly like the story with intricate and lengthy metaphors, which I felt unnecessary to demonstrate the points. But overall, I appreciate their struggle as strangers in their own country.

I had long since realised that if there was greatness in Britain, then it lay in its everyday citizens, and not in its institutions. Britain was not great because of its papers and politicians who relentlessly denigrated us, it was great in spite of them. (...) But that wasn't a spirit that I felt my country was doing nearly enough to nurture.

This was such a great collection, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in immigrant stories of Britain. Some of the articles in this are going to stay with me for a very, very long time.
