Finally finished this hefty tome. It was so worth it. It defies genre categorization, but it definitely satisfied the historical fiction lover in me. The romance was great and didn't come off as clichéd. It was delightfully steamy in parts but never corny. One word that comes to mind when attempting to describe this book is "epic". Claire is a truly kick-ass heroine. She's not the cookie cutter sassy/feisty dame of romance novels. She's smart and brave and she's not innocent either. I put off reading this for a long time because I was intimidated by the sheer length of the book, but I'm so glad I finally read it and I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the series and even checking out the Starz TV adaptation.

I had been enjoying the series during the pandemic, so I decided to read the books. I like how they books go into the reasons behind events more deeply and give the reader a more thorough look at what Claire is thinking throughout the story.

I Loved this Book!!!

.

The first sentence
It wasn't a very likely place for disappearances, at least at first glance.

Outlander is fascinating story told from the view-point of Claire.
I found myself fascinated and liking Claire from the start. I mean, gosh, she is a former combat nurse!! As a nurse myself, and one who served in the military (Ok...nothing big there but I still was in the militaryand proud that I did serve as I did in the reserves), I am intrigued with stories that involve a combat nurse. This facet of Claire brought in a dimension to the story that added great believability for me. Now, that is not the only reason why I like Claire - she is a feisty, she has a sharp tongue and she truly is a compassionate woman. I really enjoyed how she survived, how she utilized her skills, how she knew when to obey and knew when to put her own mind into decisions. I really like Claire.

Claire is not my only reason for liking Outlander.
I really,really,really like Jaime....

The book is awesome. I was super excited for this because of the fame it has managed to get.
The detail of plot had me distracted sometimes, but the book was worth it. I haven’t just read this book, it feels like I was in it!
