Fascinating history of the publishing company behind Little Golden Books. It does get down into the minutiae a bit with publishing industry details laymen are not familiar with, but it also spotlights the illustrators and writers responsible for creating these incredible works of art. Worth a read for sure.

Though it suffers that hallmark deficit of many histories -- the overly pedantic detailing of names and places that won't mean anything to anyone but the most dedicated of scholars -- the volume as a whole is enjoyable, quick reading with beautiful illustration reproductions and intriguing cultural analysis.

I have a great deal of nostalgic fondness for Little Golden Books, both as a young reader and as a parent reading them to my children, but until I read this, I knew very little about the company that produced them. This was a great introduction to the people and events that brought these books to the world. It's beautifully illustrated and contains enough detail to be intriguing without overwhelming a reader with too many facts and figures.

Very interesting book. But a big one. Not one you can take into bed and read.
