Was going to give it only two stars but
love that they broke up as the ending😂 even tho I know they get back together🙄 Not cool for the author to not answer all questions or fill-in character/plot holes but to purposely drag it out into another book🙄🙄

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this book, but it ended up being so underwhelming. Definitely better than the movie which had me hopeful for a while. However, it ended up just being a repetitive mess of love bombing and a lack of communication. The story had so much potential for character development and relationship exploration and sex education, but wow it missed the mark.

This wasn't the worst book I've ever read but it is definitely not making it onto my favorites list. It did give me the confirmation that the "controlling, rich, and '50 shades of fucked up' " trope is just not up my alley. The whole relationship that Ana and Christian form frustrated me and not in a titillating way. I found myself on more than one occasion wondering what Kate and Elliot were up to instead of reading about how Ana continues to ignore the flaming red flags that Christian was waving.
The ending surprised me
I had assumed she would decide to stay with him at the end as there are more books in the series. Her leaving in the end made working through the book after realizing I wasn't enjoying it worth it, if not only to pretend that she moves on, builds better self esteem, and finds herself an emotionally healthy man to explore what she wants out of a romantic and sexual relationship. I'm assuming that is not the case and she ends up reconciling with Mr. Grey as there are two (?) other Fifty Shades books.

Seemed like the right time to finally give this a shot, was not disappointed. I am slightly baffled as to what made this one particular erotic novel become the absolute pop culture phenomenon that it did, but I have no complaints

Please don't hate me but when a book is picked up in the hopes of good smut, I expect good smut. This was not it. Out of all the words for female genitalia this author could have chosen... If I have to read he touched my sex one more time 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ana is an indecisive whiny main character. Grey has no character development and I get that mystery is part of his persona but give me something. My favorite characters were side characters Kate and Taylor who had very little to do with the story.

This may be the first time I've ever said this but the movie was better.
